Logistics
Registration
- Please note that registration opens at 8:30 a.m., and we will begin the day's events promptly at 9:00 a.m.
- If needed, a line to the registration desks will form from our door down Commonwealth Avenue. Please do not congregate and block foot traffic on the sidewalks around our building.
- After our closing ceremonies (3:00–3:30 p.m.), you are free to leave.
- There is no formal dress code, though many students choose to wear Western business casual clothing (blazers, dress pants, etc.), further emulating real-world United Nations delegates.
- Writing materials (pen, paper, etc.) will be provided, though students are welcome to bring their own if they wish.
- No need to bring a laptop, and cell phones should be put away; this is a tech-free event!
- Reminder that all student delegates are expected to submit a two-page double-spaced position paper by the day of the conference. Submissions should be made by emailing the chair of their committee (listed in the background guide sent to you).
- COMMUN is held at Commonwealth School in Boston and easily accessible via public transportation. Map and directions here.
- Our address is 151 Commonwealth Avenue, on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street.
- For those driving, we recommend The Back Bay Garage, which is $10 with a voucher (see their website) and about a ten-minute walk from school.
- Lunch and snacks will be provided, with options for a variety of dietary needs. However, students can bring their own food if they prefer.
- Lunch will take place from 12:00–12:45 p.m. Delegates and advisors will eat in assigned spaces throughout our building. Groups are also welcome to eat outside if weather permits.
- We encourage bringing a water bottle.
- Students will largely navigate the conference on their own, connecting with school advisors and chaperones during lunch, and just before and after the event.
- School advisors and chaperones will have their own space, where they can relax while students are in committee and be reached in the event students need them. Parents/guardians of individual delegates are not expected to stay, and we respectfully ask that they do not, as our space is limited.
- Lunch will be provided. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will also be available in the advisor and chaperone space all day.
- Advisors/chaperones should let COMMUN staffers know if they need to leave the building.
