Technology Policy

COMMUN XII will be a tech-free and AI-free conference. Delegates are not permitted to use laptops or tablets in committee. All notes, resolutions, and directives should be written by hand. Paper will be provided. Delegates should ask the chair if they have questions about the facts of the committee.

AI Policy

COMMUN is fundamentally a teaching conference. Large Language Models (LLMs) and other forms of generative AI rob delegates of the opportunity to learn through the process of researching, writing, and preparing for the conference. Generative AI also tends to produce generic, boilerplate content that is worse and less creative than delegates' own writing. For these reasons, AI use is not allowed for research, writing position papers, or any other aspect of conference preparation. Delegates who use AI will be disqualified from winning awards and their advisors will be notified.
If you are stuck and need help researching and writing at any point in the process, chairs will be happy to provide substantial assistance and feedback.
